Penn Orthopaedics and Princeton Orthopedic Associates have announced a new strategic alliance in an effort to enhance and continue to improve orthopaedic care to patients in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. As part of the Penn Medicine Orthopaedic Specialty Network, physicians and surgeons at each entity will work collaboratively across state lines to expand patients’ access to highly specialized orthopaedic care, while improving care team communication and processes and collecting data to help physicians advance clinical research and care.

As part of this alliance, Princeton Orthopedic Associates’ 25 physicians and five practice locations will further expand the footprint of the Penn Orthopaedics network of affiliated physicians and hospitals – which also includes Cape Regional Medical Center in New Jersey and Bayhealth in Delaware – to reach to those in central New Jersey.

“When looking for a partner in the tri-state area, we focused on finding an institution which shared our commitment to providing the highest quality care, to creating an environment where our patients and their families would feel most comfortable and cared for, and to aligning with a group that would be unwavering during the changing healthcare climate,” said Stuart Levine, MD, president of Princeton Orthopedic Associates. “In Penn Medicine Orthopaedics, we found the level of dedication and personalized patient care that we had been looking for in a regional partner.”

“One of the main goals of the Penn Orthopaedics team is to provide the best orthopaedic care, whether a joint replacement, a hand transplant or a cartilage repair, to the greatest number patients,” said L. Scott Levin, MD, FACS, chair of Orthopaedic Surgery and a professor of Plastic Surgery at Penn Medicine. “The partnership with Princeton Orthopedic Associates, the leading community group in central New Jersey, was a natural fit, as our missions are built on the same ideals: taking the best possible care of our patients and forging strong relationships with them and their families, and advancing practice through clinical innovation.”

Princeton Orthopedic Associates is already one of the largest orthopaedic practices in New Jersey, serving primarily those in Mercer County and by proximity to Pennsylvania, those in northern Bucks County.

My experience with the shoulder operation that Dr. Song performed was the best decision I made.  He was my second opinion that turned quickly to be the first after meeting and talking to him.  He explained in great detail about what he was going to repair and I felt so comfortable with him.  The outcome of the surgery was better than I expected.  My physical therapist was so impressed that he now recommends Dr. Song to all!  I can lift my arm straight up and over with no pain.  I cannot say enough about Dr. Song.  I loved everything about him.  The office staff was accommodating and pleasant.  Dr. Song was always on time, never late.  I will speak to any patient who is not sure what to do!

Barbara G.

My experience with Dr. Song:  He is the kindest, most caring doctor.  He actually saved my life.  I am 76 years old and, for the last year, was in so much pain in my shoulder, I just did not want to live anymore.  In August 2015, I was in the hospital with a pinched nerve and, between my shoulder and back, I was ready to give up.  I went to another surgeon for my shoulder and, unfortunately, he could not operate on me until March 2016 but he gave me Dr. Song's name, so I called Dr. Song and he saw me one week later.  After reading my MRI, he sat down and talked to me.  He said my shoulder was bone-on-bone and, of course, I also have arthritis.  The minute I saw him, I knew this was my doctor to help me.  To see Dr. Song, I had so much trust in him I was anxious for him to operate on me so, October 14, I went to the hospital.  I cannot describe what a wonderful surgeon and person he is.  I am still in therapy but I can do everything that I did before.  To me, he is like a godsend.  I just adore him, trust him, and love him for the help he gave me.  I thought I was too old for this operation, but he proved me wrong.  I am telling all my friends who have shoulder problems to see Dr. Song.  For me, he is the only doctor to go to.  I “love” Dr. Song.

After having increased shoulder pain and limited use and mobility of my right arm, I had the shoulder replacement surgery performed by Dr. Song.  My appointments prior to and after surgery were easily made and the office and nursing staff were always pleasant and helpful.  During my appointment, Dr. Song thoroughly explained the surgery he would perform and I felt very comfortable and reassured.  After surgery, my pain and discomfort were minimal.  I had my arm in a sling for 5 weeks and did my daily exercises as instructed.  I then started PT 6 weeks after my surgery 3 times a week for 8 weeks.  I am now able to perform all my daily activities and have no pain or discomfort.  I am so pleased I had the surgery done and I highly recommend Dr. Song to anyone considering surgery of this kind.

Caroline R.

Kendall Park, NJ

I have been a patient of Dr. Song's for over 3 years.  I first started seeing him for shoulder pain in both of my shoulders due to osteoarthritis.  He told me he could give me corticosteroid injections to help me with the pain but, in time, I would need to have shoulder replacement surgery.  I received the cortisone injections for several years but, in time, they stopped helping with the pain I was experiencing.  I then had to decide whether to move forward with shoulder replacement surgery.  After talking with Dr. Song several times about the shoulder replacement procedure, he explained to me that the surgery was not as complicated as I had envisioned.  I also spoke to Ashley, Dr. Song's PA, and she had nothing but positive things to say about the procedure which helped with my decision to go forward with the surgery.  The office staff was very helpful in helping me set up my preadmission testing and the surgery date.  When my surgery was over, I was immediately pain-free.  After 10 weeks of physical therapy, I was able to move my arm and my shoulder as I should normally and I was pain-free.  It has been just over a year since my first shoulder replacement surgery.  I am doing great.  I had my other shoulder replaced in January with no regrets and no more pain thanks to Dr. Song.

Allentown, NJ

This is my second experience with Dr. Song and, like the first one, amazing results.  He and his staff, especially Ashley Reckdenwald, PA, was great, to say the least!  When I came to Dr. Song about my left shoulder (he already did my right one), I already went to a "well-known" doctor closer to me in Neptune.  He did some x-rays and basically diagnosed me with having bursitis and to put an ointment on daily and "live with it"!  Because of my age, there was nothing to be done, he said!  I tried that but the pain was keeping me up at night, so I decided to get a second opinion from Dr. Song.  He tested me and said that I was in great shape and had a lot of strength there but it seemed odd to him that I have the problem I had, so he advised me to get an MRI to be on the safe side.  Upon his findings, he concluded that I had a severe tear in my rotator cuff and that I needed surgery ASAP!  This was actually a bit of a shock to both of us because the pain was not the same as my right shoulder.  I had the surgery and went to PT and now I am completely free of pain in BOTH of my shoulders and can even swim in the local pool without any problems whatsoever!!!  Thanks, Dr. Song, for doing a great job!
