Custom Molded Orthotics

Custom Molded Orthotics

Patients who have had pain or injury in their feet, ankles, legs, or even back may benefit from custom-molded orthotics. They are worn in the shoes to treat foot disorders, modify abnormal foot behavior, and relieve pain. Custom-made orthotics are more effective than over-the-counter orthotics because they are made to fit your foot exactly, distributing the right amount of support exactly where it’s needed.

How Orthotics Are Made

Your doctor at Princeton Orthopaedic Associates can create your customized orthotics. The process begins with a cast of your foot. That cast is used to create the custom-molded orthotic that is specific to the size and shape of your foot.

The orthotic can be adjusted to correct problems with your foot behavior, such as whether the pressure is applied to the right areas with each footfall. You may notice certain parts of your shoes wear faster than others? That could be a problem with your footfall, and something orthotics can be used to correct.

What Can Orthotics Help?

Orthotics can improve a variety of issues, not just with the feet. These devices can be used to correct bunions, flat feet, ankle sprains or strains, chronic heel pain (including plantar fasciitis), chronic knee pain, shin pain, and lower back pain.

Orthotics aren’t just for adults. Children with minor foot problems can use orthotics to correct their gait early and help them walk better later on. Orthotics can also be used in conjunction with other devices, such as leg braces, to correct abnormalities in the foot, leg, or hip.
