A high tibial osteotomy (HTO) is considered an “unloading” procedure that can be used to correct a patient’s anatomy. In these instances, a patient’s abnormal alignment may have predisposed them to this cartilage injury. By combing an osteotomy with a cartilage repair or preservation surgery, you can ensure more reliable healing of the cartilage and optimize a patient’s outcome.
