Ankle arthroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure we use to treat minor joint issues and to diagnose injuries or abnormalities within the joint. This technique often is used to confirm a diagnosis made by physical examination and imaging.
Arthroscopy has improved previous ankle procedures that often included open surgery, long hospital stays, and extended recovery times. Arthroscopic ankle surgery is far less invasive with little to no hospital time and a shorter recovery time.
Ankle arthroscopy is used to treat tissue bands, ligament tears, bone spurs, tendonitis, cartilage damage, and arthritis, among other disorders and injuries. Some doctors begin by using ankle arthroscopy to diagnose the problem, then they correct it in the same procedure if possible. If not, they can use the same procedure later to correct the problem.
